Nike Sensor + iPod
What is it?
It's a sensor that fits into your Nike + ready shoes (such as the Lunarglide in a previous post) under the insole of the shoe to measure your time, distance, pace, and calories burnt while running. Then you can sync your workout to the Nike website via iTunes and measure yourself against people all over the world who are similar in age to you, measure your improvement over time blah blah.
If you're with Discovery then you can set it up to sync your workouts to their website and give you Vitality points. Nifty stuff.

What does it look like?
Again, the hardest thing about this product (like the Cookoo watch) is getting it out of the package. I eventually had to destroy the package to get it out. Goodbye nails! :/ |
Why use it?
Well, if you are a runner, this is great; especially when used with the iPod nano. Other than all the things it measures for you, you can setup playlists for when you need an extra oomph. There's is a voice-over that can tell you the stats as you're going so if you're training or just trying to beat your previous results, it's a great motivator.
Nike released an app called Nike + Training for free on the app store. By using this app with your sensor on an iPhone (or iPod that can use apps) you can use the app features:

Pros:
*Easy to install inside your insole and on your iOS device.
*Free exercise app from iTunes
*You don't have to take them in and out after workouts.
*The measurements are pretty accurate but you can calibrate it if you need to.
Cons:
*You cannot replace the battery. It has a life of 1000 hours and then you need to buy another sensor.
*You need the Nike + shoes to take full advantage of them. I have seen people tape them to their shoes but this isn't ideal and can mess with the sensor and your readouts.
*iOS only. I'm sure other Nike products work with Android, but I haven't found any evidence that this will work with anything other than an Apple product. Fine for me since I have iPod and iPhone, but not so much for other people. You can download the App for Android and just put the cellphone in your pocket but not this sensor.
Overall, I like this product because I like stats, I have Nike and Apple products so they work well in unison and I am too lazy to fit other sensors off and on my shoes when I exercise. It's another thing I have to remember to put in my gym bag basically. This stays in the shoe and is ready when I'm ready so that's a big plus for me. A similar product would be the Polar Stride Sensor which probably would be very logical for me to have since my Polar watch supports it, but I don't like the way it clips onto your shoes. I think I'd constantly be worried about kicking it off and having to go looking for it or breaking it. Plus the Polar costs a heck of a lot more than the Nike sensor.
