Baked Daytona chicken wings
So I had never been to Hooters before, but on date night I decided to spoil my fiance and go to Hooters before watching Fast and Furious 6. He'd been there with work friends a few times and had been raving about their Daytona chicken wings. We went through a stage were we'd go to Food Lovers Market and buy a ton of chicken wings in BBQ sauce, bake 'em, and consume them in the tons. This was alright, but never gave the zing of 'Merican style hot wings.
After the Hooters visit, I was impressed but not ecstatic about the wings. Fast forward one week later, and all I can think about are those freaking Hooters Daytona chicken wings! I'm pretty sure they put crack or something in them. So I decided to do a little snooping online to see if there was any recipes for similar style wings that we can make at home, and not-to-my-surprise, there's quite a few. Here is the recipe for the one that, to me, is the best looking one, plus it's baked and not deep fried, so you'll save a lot of calories.
- 10 Chicken wings
- 3/4 cup of flour
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Olive oil spray
- 3/4 cup BBQ sauce
- 1/4 cup hot sauce
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- a few sprinkles of crushed red pepper (if you like 'em hot)
- 1 teaspoon corn starch (mix this with a few drops of cold water)
Chicken Wings:
SAUCE:
Preheat oven to 190.
Combine the flour, paprika, salt, and pepper in a plastic bag. Put the pieces of chicken in the plastic bag and shake to coat.
Place the chicken pieces on a foil lined baking sheet sprayed with olive oil. Bake for 15 minutes or until cooked.
While the chicken is in the oven, combine sauce ingredients in a saucepan on the stove. Reduce mixture on medium low heat for at least 15 minutes.
When the chicken is finished cooking, toss it in the sauce.
Grill in the oven for a few minutes and serve.
The more wings you make, the more you'll need to double ingredients above so that there's enough to coat each wing.
Enjoy :)
